Leadership-in-Action Conversations

During crises such as the current pandemic, leaders have to manage certain dilemmas, anticipate structural changes, and ensure their organisations are pivoted for growth.

The Council for Board Diversity organised a digital conversation with:

  • Mrs Tan Ching Yee (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Prime Minister’s Office (Special Duties) and Chair, Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority and Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore),
  • Ms Diaan-Yi Lin (Senior Partner and Asia Co-leader for the Social, Healthcare and Public Entities, McKinsey & Company and Board Member, Viva Foundation), and
  • Mr Jonathan Ng (Executive Director, Far East Organisation and Non-Executive Director of Yeo Hiap Seng Ltd)

The discussion was moderated by Ms Janet Ang, Independent Director of Singapore Press Holdings Limited and Chairman of NUS Institute of Systems Science, SISTIC, and Singapore Polytechnic.

Key takeaways include how to navigate a “Co-Covid” world, the importance of cognitive diversity, ensuring inter-temporal consistencies as well as the need for boards to focus on strategy to build resilience, enhance risk management and stakeholder engagement.

Mr Ong Chong Tee, Deputy Managing Director of Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and a member of the Council for Board Diversity (CBD), spoke at a Leadership-in-Action Conversation organized by CBD on 5 August 2020. The discussion was led by Ms Janet Ang, Independent Director of Singapore Press Holdings Limited and Chairman of NUS Institute of Systems Science.

She was previously Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport. The discussion was led by Janet Ang, Independent Director of Singapore Press Holdings Limited and Chairman of NUS Institute of Systems Science.

The Council for Board Diversity jointly organised an event with LinkedIn Singapore. It comprised a Leadership-in-Action Conversation with Sherman Kwek, Group CEO, City Developments Limited and was moderated by Janet Ang, Former Vice-President, Industry Solutions and Smarter Cities, IBM Asia-Pacific on “Traits of a Successful Board Director  – a CEO’s perspective”. Sherman shared about the ‘4Cs’ common to successful board directors: Courageous, Curious, Comprehensive, and Calm.
